The case resulted after an article was printed in Macleans magazine in Canada in October 2006. The article was titled The future belongs to Islam - and was an excerpt form America Alone.

The complaint, of charges of “flagrant Islamophobia”, was made against Steyn and Maclean’s by the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC).

The case was heard by the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal.  It focused critical attention on Canada’s controversial Human Rights Commissions.

Eventually Mark Steyn was acquitted of the charge - on October 10, 2008.
