Overview of Political Parties

With a new round of state and Federal elections about to start in 2010 we need to be prepared with some background information on who stands for what.

We decided to take a look at the main parties to see what has changed - who runs them and what they really stand for. This review is not definitive, but a guide to help you better understand today's political landscape.

There are four main Parties, Labor, Liberal, National & Greens and three minor Parties - Christian Democratic, Family First, Democratic Labour Party, there are also a number of fairly insignificant single issue parties.

There is also a new kid on the block, The Australia Sex Party, and at first glance they should be irrelevant, but if a risqué model and beauty queen (Mara Carfagna) can be elected a national MP in Italy and become a government Minister, anything seems possible in politics today.
There first foray into politics will be the Higgins bi-election in December 2009.

We will add more Parties and information about them over the next few months as we produce them for our Monthly Journal.

We hope this will give you a better idea of their basic philosophy and policies.
