Shepparton campaigns against Club X mega-store!

During October-November 2004, the Shepparton community came together to fight against a proposed Club X 'adult' mega-store, which would allow pornography and its negative effects to pervade the city of Greater Shepparton.

The porn-shop proposed for the gateway to the city of Greater Shepparton also features peep-style booths where men can enter, watch pornography then clean themselves up - hence the 'ample supply of tissues' provided.

Fed up, Christians and concerned community members took the battle to the Greater Shepparton Council and formed an action group.

Goulburn Valley Community Against Pornography group spokesman Glen Cox recently met with the Mayor of Greater Shepparton, Cr Anne McCamish, who said the Council would work with the community to ensure the best outcome to the proposal

Submissions to Council have been made and citizens encouraged to let the Council know their feelings.

Unfortunately the law does not allow for such decisions to be made on moral grounds, meaning that the community voice has been lessened. If the Council refuses the application, the owner could appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
