Parliaments and MPs
As citizens we have a duty to communicate with our parliamentarians and let them know our views.
Their role, as our elected representatives, is to represent us.
However, as an article called Why Does Democracy Fail from Compton's encyclopedia explains, they cannot represent US if we don't tell them what we think about a particular issue. We have a responsibility to communicate with our MPs.
This section of the website gives details of MPs, Parliaments and electorates.
You can find your electorates, your state and federal MPs and more...
We endeavour to keep these pages up to date - but if you notice that a new political leader is in power (and we haven't updated the information), please let us know!
The various pages are explained below - and the links are in the box on the left.
Federal
The 'Federal'Â page has links for the Federal parliament and information about Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
States/Territories
There are pages for all the State and Territory parliaments - these have details about the MPs.
Who are my MPs?
People often ask us how they can find out what electorate they are in...
Just follow these steps to find out your federal and state electorates:
The Australian Electoral Commission has a special website that enables you to verify your enrolment details. Click here.
Type in your name and address. Click "Verify Enrolment" and your federal and state electorate details will be shown as well as your local government details. Then print it out for future reference!
By phone: You can phone the AEC on 13 2326 and ask for the details. Just have a pen and paper ready to write them down.
Alternatively many of the state and federal parliament websites now have interactive pages that enable you to find out who your MPs are as well as your electorates...
Click here to visit the Australian Electoral Commission website for more information.
